Ellen Kitchell

Ellen Kitchell, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine. She specializes in HIV treatment, opportunistic infection management, and improving care access in free clinics. She joined UTSW’s faculty in 2010 and currently serves as Medical Director of HIV Clinical Services at Parkland Health, Director of UTSW’s HIV Fellowship, and Course Director of the HIV Curriculum Series.

• Education: B.S. in Biological Sciences (summa cum laude, Smith College), M.D. (University of Iowa), Internal Medicine Residency and Infectious Diseases Fellowship (UT Southwestern).

Her research focuses on enhancing HIV care quality, reducing readmissions, and expanding HIV testing. She participates in clinical trials and has received the Excellence in Education award. She practices at Parkland Memorial Hospital in both inpatient and outpatient HIV/AIDS care roles.

Dr. Kitchell is a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and holds leadership roles in professional organizations like the HIV Medicine Association’s Leadership Development Committee and the Department of Health and Human Services’ guidelines panel for HIV-related opportunistic infections.
