Dr. Elke Elisabeth Schmidt is a full-time Researcher in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Siegen, Germany. Since 2017, she has worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Practical Philosophy and joined the Digital Kant Center NRW in 2022. Her research focuses on Kant's Practical Philosophy, Metaethics, and the Philosophy of Love and Emotions, with particular interest in the Trolley Problem, Autonomous Driving Ethics, and Moral Casuistry.

Her publications span Kant's moral theory, duties of love, and the intersection of emotions with moral frameworks. Recent works analyze love's role in meaningfulness and autonomous vehicle ethics through Kantian lenses. She contributes to the Kant-Studien journal and collaborates with Dieter Schönecker on Kantian interpretations.
Dr. Schmidt leads the ZetKIK (Center for Technology and Diversity) and is affiliated with the Digital Kant Center NRW. She teaches courses on Deontology vs. Consequentialism, Logical-Hermeneutic Propaedeutics, and Kantian texts like the Groundwork and Doctrine of Virtue. Her work bridges classical philosophy with contemporary issues in medical ethics, existential meaning, and AI ethics.
