Prof. Dr. Elke Dittmann is the Head of the Department of Microbiology at the Institute of Biology and Biochemistry, University of Potsdam. Her research focuses on the biosynthesis and biological roles of nonribosomal and ribosomal peptides in cyanobacteria, particularly in harmful species like Microcystis and symbiotic Nostoc strains. She investigates microcystin’s function under oxidative stress and the implications of horizontal gene transfer of eukaryotic cytoskeletal elements in cyanobacteria.
