Gregory Challis is a **Professor** in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at **Monash University**, Australia. He also holds a concurrent position as Professor at the **University of Warwick** (since 2001). His research focuses on microbial secondary metabolites, polyketide biosynthesis, and enzyme mechanisms critical to antibiotic production. He leads or contributes to major interdisciplinary projects, including the ARC Centre of Excellence for Innovations in Peptide and Protein Science (2020–2028) and studies on fungal biology via microbial metabolites (2022–2025).
Challis has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work emphasizing structural enzymology, metabolite discovery, and biotechnological applications of nonribosomal peptides. His contributions align with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in combating diseases and advancing sustainable agriculture. He is an active PhD supervisor and holds a patent for biotechnological inventions (2017).
