University of Wisconsin-Madisonمعرفی
Professor Patricia Sanchez-Baracaldo holds the title of Professor of Phylogenomics and Microbiology at the University of Bristol, affiliated with the School of Geographical Sciences and the Cabot Institute for the Environment. She leads research on cyanobacteria's role in shaping Earth's nutrient cycles and climate over geological timescales, with a focus on polar environments and early Earth conditions.
Her education includes a B.Sc. from Universidad de Los Andes (Bogotá) and a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley. Research interests span cyanobacterial evolution, marine planktonic origins, and their adaptation to extreme environments like the Arctic and Antarctic.
Recent work highlights include studies on nitrogen diets in freshwater cyanobacteria (2025), evolutionary adaptations under anoxic conditions (2024), and tributes to pioneering plant physiologist John Raven (2025). These publications underscore her interdisciplinary approach bridging microbiology, geology, and environmental science.
- Recipient of the Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship (2012–2017)
- Leading active research projects: Horizontal gene transfer in cyanobacteria (2024–2027), genome evolution studies (2023–2026), and enhanced research funding (2023–2025)
- Labs focus on isolating/coding cyanobacterial genomes from polar regions
