Elizabeth Simmons-O'Neill is a Principal Lecturer Emerita in the Department of English at the University of Washington, College of Arts & Sciences. She holds roles including Associate Director of the Expository Writing Program, Community Literacy Program Director, English 121 Faculty Mentor, and UW in the High School English Faculty Coordinator.
Her education includes a B.A. in English and American Literature from the University of Montana (1978), an M.A. (1982), and a Ph.D. (1988) in English Language and Literature from the University of Washington.
Her research focuses on writing pedagogy, interdisciplinary writing, community-engaged learning, and multilingual/global teaching strategies. She emphasizes collaborative learning, student retention, and K-20 educational partnerships.
She teaches courses in expository and interdisciplinary writing and has led initiatives such as the Community Literacy Program and UW in the High School program.
