Elizabeth Legerski is an Associate Professor & Graduate Director in the Department of Sociology at the University of North Dakota (UND). A first-generation college graduate, she has been teaching at UND since Fall 2010 and earned tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in Fall 2017. She served as University Senate Chair (2020-2021) and Faculty Advisor to the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education (2020-2022).
- Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Kansas (2010)
- M.S. in Sociology from Brigham Young University (2004)
- B.S. in Sociology (Research and Analysis emphasis) from Brigham Young University (2002)
Dr. Legerski's research explores how family dynamics, employment opportunities, social policies, and cultural/political forces intersect to shape marginalized populations, particularly low-income and working-class families. Her work addresses gender inequality, social policy impacts, and interpersonal violence.
Scientific Awards:
- Lydia & Arthur Saiki Faculty Award for Excellence in Service (2022)
- Itterman Faculty Professional Development Award (2021)
She has secured grants from the Midwest Sociological Society and the National Institute of Justice for collaborative, interdisciplinary research projects.
