Elizabeth H. P. Backfish is an Associate Professor and Program Director of Biblical Studies at the School of Theology & Leadership, Jessup University in Rocklin, CA. She holds a Ph.D. in Theological Studies (Old Testament) from Trinity International University, an M.A. in Exegetical Theology from Covenant Seminary, and a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Montreat College.
Her research focuses on Hebrew poetry, textual criticism, and the cultural context of Old Testament theology, with specialties in the Psalms and Septuagint translation techniques. She explores literary devices like wordplay, alliteration, and metaphor in ancient texts, emphasizing their theological and pedagogical implications. Her work bridges scholarly inquiry and practical application in Christian education.
Backfish’s publications include articles in Christian Scholar’s Review, Biblical Archaeology Review, and the Journal of Biblical Literature, as well as a monograph on Septuagint wordplay in the Psalter. She actively contributes to academic conferences and publications, advocating for transformative learning approaches in biblical hermeneutics.
Outside academia, she engages in outdoor adventures with her family and is an active member of Granite Springs Church in Lincoln, CA.
