Dr. Elizabeth Burgess-Pinto is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Integrative Nursing Systems at MacEwan University, where she has taught since 2008. Her clinical expertise spans pediatrics/child health nursing and community health nursing, with prior sessional teaching experience at the University of Alberta Faculty of Nursing.
Her credentials include a PhD from the University of Alberta, a Master of Nursing (MN), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), and professional certifications as a Registered Nurse (RN) and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
Research focuses on global health, immigrant and refugee health, and children and youth health through qualitative methodologies including narrative inquiry and action research. She explores relational ethics in practice and heutagogical approaches to nursing education, emphasizing transformative learning for vulnerable populations.
Her publication record since 2007 reveals consistent interdisciplinary collaboration on migration health, newcomer integration, and nursing education reform, with recurring themes of cultural competence and community-based care system transformation.

As National Coordinator for the New Canadian Children & Youth study, she led a six-city survey on immigrant/refugee child well-being. Current teaching includes HLST 354 (Healthy Populations), NURS 344 (Nursing Research Methods), and NURS 372 Labs (Healthy Young Families), reflecting her expertise in population health and community engagement.
