Dr. Elizabeth B. Claus, MD, PhD is Professor of Biostatistics and Director of Medical Research at Yale University School of Public Health, with a secondary appointment as Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery. She serves as Attending Neurosurgeon and Director of Stereotactic Radiosurgery within the Department of Neurosurgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Claus is a Board-certified neurosurgeon who completed her residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Dr. Claus' research focuses on cancer and genetic epidemiology with particular emphasis on developing risk models for breast and brain tumors. She serves as Principal Investigator for the Meningioma Consortium, the Meningioma Genome-Wide Association Study, and the Yale Acoustic Neuroma Study, and is a co-investigator for the GLIOGENE and International Glioma Case/Control projects. In 2016, she launched the International Low-Grade Glioma Registry to investigate why some people develop these slow-growing but malignant brain tumors while others do not. She recently received National Cancer Institute funding for the OPTIMUM project, which aims to enroll 500 participants diagnosed with low-grade glioma who have undergone at least two surgeries to establish comprehensive genomic characterization across time.
Analysis of Dr. Claus' recent publications reveals a strong focus on molecular mechanisms of brain tumors, particularly glioma and meningioma, with growing interest in environmental factors, quality of life outcomes, and population-based analyses of cancer mortality. Her work spans epidemiology, molecular biology, clinical research, and digital health applications.

Dr. Claus serves on the board of advisors for the Acoustic Neuroma Association and the Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States. She is actively involved with the National Institutes of Health as a member of Peer Review Groups and Grant Study Sections since 2010, and participates in the Glioma Research Consortium since 2008. Her clinical focus is on the treatment of meningioma, glioma, acoustic neuroma and brain metastases.
