Prof. Elizabeth Anne McKay (FRCOT, FHEA) is a Professor in Occupational Therapy at the School of Health and Social Care, Edinburgh Napier University. With a career spanning leadership roles across academic and clinical settings, she specializes in mental health, social inclusion, clinical reasoning, and service users' experiences, particularly in palliative care and professional education. Her work extends to BAME occupational therapists' mentoring and women in secure environments.
- National appointments include Chair of Ireland's CORU Education Committee and Mental Health Commission Research Committee
- Co-edited Narratives and Professional Reasoning and Advanced Practice in Mental Health Occupational Therapy
- Supervised 14 PhD students to completion, with 5 securing national funding (NIHR, ESRC, etc.)
Research Themes:
Her publications focus on occupational participation in criminal justice and rehabilitation, assistive technology equity, and codependency recovery. Key projects include the No Barriers to Success series addressing BAME OTs' career progression.
