Fiona Maclean

Fiona Maclean is an HCPC registered occupational therapist and Associate Professor at Edinburgh Napier University, where she leads the Allied Health & Social Care Science subject area. She actively contributes to research through the Health Technologies Research Group and Centre for Mental Health Practice, Policy and Law, with a focus on dementia care and technology integration.

• Current projects include Co-creating the future: the use of multifunctional robots in occupational therapy (funded by Royal College of Occupational Therapists, £99,720)
• Previously led Take Ten Scoping Study (Scottish Government, £9,998) and Learn @ Lunch (Elizabeth Casson Trust, £6,243)

Her research spans:

• Robotics in dementia care (evident in 2025 publications)
• Home-based occupational therapy (2024 Slovenian study)
• Digital stress management (2023 scoping review)
• Alcohol use in aging populations (2012-2022 research)

She supervises:

• Doctoral research on Huntington Disease prevention (with Lorraine Barry)
• Master's projects in post-stroke digital rehabilitation
