Professor Elissa L. Perry is a faculty member at Teachers College, Columbia University, affiliated with the Social-Organizational Psychology program. She holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University (1991) and has taught in Masters, Ph.D., and executive programs since joining the institution.
- Education: B.S. (1987) and M.S. (1989) in Psychology from Trinity College; Ph.D. (1991) in Organizational Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University.
Research Focus:
Her work examines the intersection of demographic characteristics (age, race, disability) with HR decision-making and organizational outcomes. Key areas include diversity management, inclusive leadership, and evidence-based interventions to combat sexual harassment and age discrimination. She is developing a theory-based measure of inclusive leadership and strategies to bridge the research-practice gap in HR.
Recent Publications: Co-authored the updated edition of Human Resources for the Non-HR Manager (2023), which provides practical HR guidance for non-specialists. Her empirical studies in journals like Research in Higher Education and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion explore systemic factors influencing workplace equity.
