Elisa Baroncini is a Full Professor of International Law at the University of Bologna, holding a Jean Monnet Chair for the SustainEUorPlanet Project. She specializes in International Economic Law, WTO dispute settlement mechanisms, EU trade policy, and sustainable development governance.
Her research examines the intersection of trade law with sustainability goals, focusing on WTO reform, bilateral dispute settlement mechanisms in EU FTAs, and the incorporation of UN Sustainable Development Goals in trade agreements. Recent projects include 'The WTO as Major Driver of Sustainable Development and its Reform Process' funded by MAECI.
Professor Baroncini has received numerous awards including the Microsoft Research Star Award and serves as TSD Expert for EU FTAs disputes. She has supervised over 15 PhD students to completion.
Current research analyzes how pandemic responses reshape international trade governance, particularly regarding healthcare products distribution.
