معرفی
Dr. Elisa Alvarez-Curto is a Lecturer in Pharmacology at the School of Life Sciences, University of Glasgow. She has held this position since September 2021 and previously served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the same institution from 2007 to early 2020.
- Education: Undergraduate degree in Spain, PhD in Developmental Biology and Cell Signalling at Leiden University (completed in The Netherlands, supervisor moved to University of Dundee during her PhD).
Her research focuses on G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) structure-function relationships, particularly free-fatty acid receptors like FFA4/GPR120. She employs in vitro molecular pharmacology, in vivo pharmacology, and biophysical methods (biosensors, CRISPR, mutagenesis) to investigate ligand-induced conformational changes and their therapeutic implications.
Recent publications highlight her expertise in:
- Free-fatty acid receptor pharmacology in metabolic syndrome
- Signal bias through phosphorylation clusters
- Oligomerization dynamics of muscarinic receptors
- Allosteric modulator characterization
She played a critical role in establishing Scotland's first high-throughput COVID-19 testing lab (LLiG) in April 2020, demonstrating her capacity to apply academic expertise to urgent public health needs.
