Andrew Tobin is a Professor of Molecular Pharmacology at the University of Glasgow and Director of the Advanced Research Centre. He leads the Centre for Translational Pharmacology, focusing on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and malaria therapeutics. His research integrates genetic mouse models, chemical biology, and proteomics to develop novel drugs for neurodegenerative diseases and anti-malarials.
Education includes a 1st-class Biochemistry degree from Queen Mary College, University of London, and a D.Phil from the University of Oxford. His career spans industry (Bristol Myers Squibb) and academia (University of Leicester), supported by three Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellowships.
Research interests:
- GPCR Pharmacology: Mechanisms of receptor signaling, phosphorylation, and allosteric modulation in neurodegeneration (Alzheimer's, prion diseases).
- Malaria Drug Discovery: Targeting essential Plasmodium kinases (e.g., PfCLK3) with covalent inhibitors and probing phospho-signaling pathways.
