Elin Haugsgjerd Allern is Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo. Her research examines political parties, interest groups, political representation, public policy-making, and multi-level governance in established democracies.
Allern specializes in party-interest group relationships using mixed-methods approaches. Her current projects include cross-national analyses of interest group access and influence patterns. She coordinates the PAIRDEM project documenting party-interest group relationships across democracies.
Her publications establish methodologies for analyzing organizational ties between parties and interest groups. Recent work re-examines resource exchange models and develops cross-national datasets for comparative research.
Allern serves on editorial boards including Norsk statsvitenskapelig tidsskrift and the Political Party Database steering committee.
