Sigurd Allern is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Oslo's Department of Media and Communication, part of the Faculty of Humanities. He holds a Dr. polit. in media studies and has held academic roles including Professor of Journalism Studies at UiO (2003–present) and visiting professorships at Stockholm University and Science Po Toulouse. His career includes research leadership roles such as project leader for the Nordic Research Network in Journalism Studies (NordForsk-funded) and co-chair of a Scandinavian political scandal research project.
