Karoline Andrea Ihlebæk is a Professor at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Oslo Metropolitan University. She is a member of the 'Digital Journalism Research Group' and chairs the Political Communication (POLKOM) research group at the University of Oslo. Ihlebæk is affiliated with the Center for Extremism Research (C-REX, UiO) and the EU Cost Action network 'Redressing Radical Polarisation,' where she leads the working group 'Designing Practical Tools to Counter, Redress and Prevent Radical Polarisation.'

Her research focuses on journalism, alternative media, audience participation, platform power, and media policy. She explores the societal implications of far-right digital media and contributes to debates on media diversity and governance.
Recent publications analyze the Nordic media model, far-right online dynamics, and the role of alternative media in political communication. She co-led the Norwegian Research Council-funded project 'The Far Right Online and the Resilience of Society' (FREXO) and participates in the NORDFORSK project 'PastForward' examining digital discourses about Nordic futures.
Scientific awards include two best journal article accolades. She has editorial roles at Norsk Medietidsskrift and Journalistica, and contributes to international conferences on media and political communication.
