Elena Pilipets is a postdoctoral researcher in Digital Media and Methods at the Collaborative Research Center "Media of Cooperation" and currently serves as the Deputy Professor of Media Aesthetics at the Department of Media Studies, University of Siegen.
Her research focuses on methodological innovations for analyzing digital phenomena through mixed-methods approaches. Key areas include:
- Empirical investigations of internet subcultures and platform dynamics
- Development of analytical frameworks for multimodal data
- Exploration of affective environments in digital platforms
- Critical analysis of synthetic media and generative AI applications
Her empirical work specifically examines Tumblr memes, TikTok videos, Instagram bots, Twitter comment cultures, synthetic media, and participatory war propaganda, combining qualitative visual methods with digital and AI-based approaches.
