Elena Dimova is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Glasgow Caledonian University, where she teaches across the BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology and DPsych programmes in Counselling Psychology, Health Psychology and Sport and Exercise Psychology. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Chartered member (CPsychol) and Associate Fellow (AFBPsS) of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
Her educational background includes a PhD in Health Psychology (completed in 2018, funded by ESRC), an MSc in Health Psychology, and a BA (Hons) in Psychology. She is a member of the Substance Use research group and Child and Adolescent Health research group at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Dr. Dimova's research focuses on reducing alcohol-related harm in different populations with particular emphasis on how gender and identity influence alcohol use and related behaviors. She has methodological expertise in qualitative research and systematic, scoping, and rapid reviews. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and wellbeing.
Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on alcohol policy, gender differences in alcohol consumption, LGBTQ+ health disparities, and the effectiveness of alcohol control measures. Her research spans qualitative studies, scoping reviews, and policy analyses, with a strong emphasis on translating research findings into practical policy recommendations.
She has received funding from multiple organizations including The Institute of Alcohol Studies, Alcohol Focus Scotland, WHO, SHAAP, CSO, and Scottish Institute for Policing Research for her research on alcohol-related topics.
Dr. Dimova actively participates in peer review activities for journals such as Addiction and African Journal of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicines, and has presented her work at conferences including the UK Society for Behavioural Medicine and the Alcohol Epidemiology Symposium of the Kettil Bruun Society.
