Her research explores diasporic identity formation through narratives of disenchantment, abjection, and cultural memory. Recent projects examine how graphic memoirs represent Asian North American experiences, while earlier work focused on 118th-century female authors challenging gender stereotypes. Publications span critical monographs, edited collections, and analyses of writers like Mary Hays and contemporary figures such as Michael Cho.
Professor Ty has taught graduate seminars on graphic novels and courses including Literature and Crime, 21st Century Anglophone Narratives, and Asian Canadian Literature. Her academic leadership includes department chairmanship (2004-2009), program coordination roles, and conference organizing positions. She continues to shape scholarship through SSHRC-funded research and international collaborations.
