Lily M Cho is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at York University, affiliated with the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. Her research focuses on diasporic subjectivity, postcolonial literature, and Asian North American/Canadian literature. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, an M.A. from Queen's University, and a B.A. from the University of Alberta.
Her work intersects cultural studies, visual culture, and legal history. Key projects include Mass Capture, which examines Chinese Canadian head tax certificates and their role in citizenship formation, and Eating Chinese, analyzing Chinese restaurants' cultural impact in Canada. She co-edited Human Rights and the Arts: Perspectives on Global Asia, rethinking human rights through artistic lenses.
Dr. Cho has received prestigious awards, including the 2023 Association for Asian American Studies Award and an Honourable Mention from the Photography Network Book Prize. Her current project, Asian Values: Fictions of Finance and Beautiful Money, explores diasporic movement and financial theories in postcolonial Asia.
