Eleanor MacDonald is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Studies at Queen's University. She holds cross-appointments to the Department of Gender Studies and the Graduate Program in Cultural Studies. Her research focuses on contemporary political theory, including identity politics, feminist theory, critical theory, postmodernism, Marxist theory, anti-racist theory, environmental theory, and queer theory. She has held visiting positions at Carleton University and the University of Edinburgh, and served as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies from 2004–2007.
Educated at Carleton University (BA Hons., MA) and York University (PhD), she joined Queen's in 1993 after a Webster Postdoctoral Fellowship. Her work explores identity, property, and environmental ethics, with recent publications addressing theoretical links between identity and property ownership. She is a renowned teacher, receiving multiple awards including the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance Award for Excellence in Teaching (2012) and repeated nominations for the Frank Knox Award.
