Dr. Elaina Maldonado is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Surrey's School of Biosciences. Her research focuses on systems biology approaches to understand metabolic disorders, particularly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and integrates computational modeling with experimental data to study metabolic pathways and disease mechanisms. She has contributed to studies on adipose tissue physiology, genetic mutations in metabolic diseases, and pharmacometric modeling.
Her work spans multi-scale computational models of liver metabolism, proteomic analysis of disease biomarkers, and the role of glucose/fructose in NAFLD progression. These studies emphasize interdisciplinary methods combining systems biology, computational simulation, and clinical data analysis.
Maldonado’s research also addresses genetic disorders linked to mitochondrial dysfunction and cataracts, employing proteomic and genomic tools to elucidate disease mechanisms. Her articles frequently highlight translational applications in pharmacology and metabolic disease prevention.
