Dr. Elad Filler is a lecturer in the Department of Jewish Thought at Bar-Ilan University, where he also earned his M.A. and Ph.D. He serves as Chair of the Society of Biblical Literature's (SBL) Judaica Unit, demonstrating leadership within the academic community of biblical and Jewish studies scholars.
Dr. Filler's research focuses on:
- Jewish Thought
- Philo Studies
- Biblical Interpretation
- Ancient Jewish Philosophy
- Jewish Exegesis
- Hellenistic Judaism
His scholarly work examines the intersection of Hellenistic philosophy and Jewish thought, particularly through Philo of Alexandria's interpretations of biblical narratives. Dr. Filler analyzes how ancient Jewish thinkers engaged with philosophical concepts while maintaining theological integrity, as seen in his examination of Philo's allegorical understanding of biblical figures like Moses' Kushite wife as "an eye's perfect focus, reflecting Moses' direct perception of God."
His publications span Hebrew and English academic journals including Daat, Jewish Studies, and HUCA, reflecting his engagement with both Israeli and international scholarly communities. His work on Philo's interpretation of biblical narratives demonstrates how ancient Jewish exegesis can illuminate contemporary understandings of biblical texts and their philosophical implications.
