Michael B. Cover

Dr. Michael B. Cover is an Associate Professor in the Theology Department at Marquette University, holding the Henri de Lubac Chair in Theology (2022–2025). His research focuses on New Testament and early Judaism, with emphasis on Pauline letters, Philo of Alexandria, and their reception in early Christianity. He is a priest in the Episcopal Church and a participant in the Anglican-Roman Catholic Ecumenical Dialogue (ARC-USA).

• Education: A.B. in Classics, Harvard University; M.St. in Greek Language and Literature, University of Oxford; M.Div., Yale Divinity School; Dipl. in Anglican Studies, Berkeley Divinity School; Ph.D. in Judaism and Christianity in Antiquity, University of Notre Dame.

Prof. Cover’s research explores echoes of classical tragedy and comedy in the New Testament, Jewish wisdom traditions in Hellenistic contexts, and the philosophical dimensions of Philo’s allegorical commentaries. His current project is a Brill Commentary Series book on Philo’s De mutatione nominum.

His recent academic contributions focus on Philo’s engagement with Hellenistic philosophy, textual criticism of Philo’s works, and comparative studies of divine names in early Christian and Alexandrian Jewish thought. Publications span journals like Harvard Theological Review and Journal of Biblical Literature.
