Eka Permanasari is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urban Design at Monash University, Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture. She is actively engaged in research and teaching, focusing on urban resilience, climate adaptation, and sustainable urban development in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Her work contributes to multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in sustainable cities and communities.

Her research centers on urban design, community resilience, flood mitigation, and participatory planning. She explores how urban spaces reflect national identity and how communities can co-design resilient futures, especially in the face of climate change. Her work integrates architectural theory with practical, community-based solutions in both urban and rural contexts.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend toward climate-resilient urban planning, with a focus on flood risk management, decarbonization of buildings, and the socio-spatial implications of Indonesia’s new capital city (IKN Nusantara). Her interdisciplinary approach combines urban design, environmental science, and social equity, often employing mixed-methods and participatory research.
She has contributed to public discourse through 28 media appearances and public lectures, discussing urban challenges in Jakarta and the planning of Nusantara. Her research is supported by active projects such as the Citarum Action Research Program and MUST: Enabling Multi-species Transitions of Cities and Regions.
