Eithne Sexton

Eithne Sexton is a Lecturer in the School of Population Health at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). She holds a PhD in Health Services Research from RCSI (2010–2015) and earlier degrees from Trinity College Dublin, including an MSc in Applied Social Research (2007–2008), an MPhil in International Peace Studies (2005–2006), and a BA (Mod) in Psychology and Philosophy (2001–2005).

Her research focuses on epidemiological modeling of stroke, dementia, and chronic disease, with a particular emphasis on aging populations and participatory research methods. As Principal Investigator of the SIMI-Stroke project (funded under HRB ARPP), she leads model-based analyses to project future healthcare needs, including stroke-driven dementia prevalence and cognitive impairment outcomes.

Notable research contributions include studies on post-stroke care navigation, stroke survivor experiences, and the development of national stroke audits in Ireland. She has collaborated on projects addressing delirium assessment in hip fracture registries and cognitive rehabilitation interventions for stroke survivors.

Key areas of expertise include health outcomes measurement (e.g., SEIQoL quality-of-life metrics), population health modeling, and stakeholder-engaged research. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being).
