Dr Eirini Karamouzi is a Senior Lecturer in Contemporary History at the University of Sheffield's School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities. She holds an MSc in European Politics and Governance and a PhD in International History from the London School of Economics (LSE). Her expertise spans European integration, Cold War dynamics, and the political/social history of Modern Greece and Southern Europe. Key research includes the 1970s Greek EEC accession, anti-nuclear activism in the Cold War, and the role of tourism in post-war Greek cultural narratives.
Research & Projects: Her first book, Greece, the EEC and the Cold War, 1974-1979, examines Greece's EU integration during the Cold War. Current projects include a global history of anti-nuclear activism (AHRC-funded) and a digital exhibition on Greece's post-war history through tourism. She co-edits Cold War History and leads the 'Cultures of the Cold War' network.
- PI of the Max Batley Fellowship project on Southern European peace movements (2016-2018)
- Co-organizer of the Beyond the Euromissile Crisis edited volume (2025)
- Curated 'Fighting for Peace' exhibition at the Hellenic Parliament (2019)
Awards & Fellowships: A.G. Leventis Fellowship (SEESOX, 2014-15), Max Weber Fellowship (EUI, 2013-14), Pinto Postdoctoral Fellowship (LSE IDEAS, 2011-12).
Teaching: Teaches modules on 20th-century Europe, Cold War histories, and post-war international relations. Supervises PhD research on topics including organized labor, nationalism, and transnational democracy movements.
