Einar Johannes Røttingen

Einar Johannes Røttingen is a Professor of Piano at the Grieg Academy, Department of Music, University of Bergen, where he serves as both Program Coordinator for the Master's in Performing Music and Research Coordinator. He is affiliated with the Grieg Academy's research group for performance and interpretation (GAFFI) and has established himself as a leading figure in Norwegian piano performance and research.

Røttingen's research interests center on establishing and analyzing Norwegian piano tradition, with particular focus on interpretative features of works by Edvard Grieg, Geirr Tveitt, and Fartein Valen. His work extends to contemporary Norwegian music and artistic research methodology, emphasizing collaborative interpretation practices. His recent three-year project '(Un-)Settling Sites and Styles' (2017-2020), funded by the Norwegian Artistic Research Program, investigated how performers can find new expressive means through collaborative research with other musicians.
