Eileen Otis is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Graduate Program Director at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Northeastern University. Her research examines labor dynamics, gender inequality, and globalization in China's service sector.

Her award-winning book Markets and Bodies: Women, Service Work and the Making of Inequality in China (Stanford University Press, 2013) and peer-reviewed publications in journals like American Sociological Review and Gender and Society highlight her expertise in labor sociology and gendered economic systems.
Dr. Otis has received prestigious honors including the American Sociological Association's Distinguished Book Award (2013) and multiple Distinguished Article Awards (2010). Her work currently focuses on Walmart retail workers in China.
