Eileen Carey is an Associate Professor at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Faculty of Education and Health Sciences, University of Limerick. Her work bridges clinical practice, education, and research, focusing on intellectual disability nursing and the health and wellbeing of older adults.
- Education: BSc (Nursing Studies) from University of Limerick, PG Dip (Nurse Education) and MSc (Advanced Nursing Studies) from University of Ulster, PhD from Trinity College Dublin.
Her research examines humanistic, legal, and sociological factors impacting adults with intellectual disabilities, particularly in autonomy, person-centered planning, and inclusive research methodologies. She has led national studies on student placement opportunities and practice leadership programs in Ireland.
Recent publications include systematic reviews on metastatic breast cancer patient experiences and psychosocial interventions for dementia care. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing).
