Edward Yazijian is an Assistant Professor of Religion and Asian Studies at Furman University. Born in Amityville, NY, he lived and studied in India and Bangladesh from 1975-1984, acquiring expertise in Sanskrit, Bengali, and Hindi languages and literature. He holds a Ph.D. and A.M. from the University of Chicago, and a B.A. from Syracuse University.
His research focuses on Bengali and Sanskrit literary traditions, particularly the Chandimangal epic and works of Hasan Raja, alongside broader studies of South Asian arts, philosophy, and religious traditions. His scholarly translations include The Chandimangal of Kavikankan Mukundaram (Penguin India, 2015) and 100 Songs of Hasan Raja (Pathak Samabesh, 1999).
