معرفی
Professor Edward Laird is a faculty member at Lancaster University within the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Physics. He leads a research group focused on quantum electronics, creating and measuring devices to study quantum behavior for technological applications.
His research integrates nanofabrication, low-temperature physics, and advanced electronics to explore quantum dots, carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, and superconducting systems. Key areas include dark matter detection, quantum clock technology, and hybrid electromechanical quantum systems, with active collaborations in the UK and internationally.
The group has published extensively on radio-frequency reflectometry and quantum amplifiers, with their 2023 review article being among the most viewed in Applied Physics Reviews. They operate in state-of-the-art facilities like the IsoLab and Low-Temperature Physics lab, maintaining sub-millikelvin cryogenic environments.
Current projects include condensed-matter atomic clocks (funded by Innovate UK and ARC-MAC), superconducting quantum amplifiers, and moveable Josephson junctions for quantum electromechanical studies. The group also contributes to the Quantum Sensors for the Hidden Sector experiment.
