Dr. Edward Thomas Jones is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Bangor Business School, Bangor University. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Centre for Banking and Financial Studies, alongside BA (Economics and Mathematics) and MA (Banking and Finance) degrees from Bangor University. His professional background includes senior roles in the Irish banking sector, specializing in financial modeling and capital calculations.
He serves as Director of the Institute of European Finance (IEF), a Non-Executive Director at M-SParc (Wales’ dedicated science park), and Chairman of Gymdeithas Elusennol Ynys Mon, an Anglesey-based grant-making charity. Jones is actively involved in policy-related research, focusing on public/private finance innovation, community-led ventures, and tax systems in Wales.
Research interests include economic policy, community-driven solutions, urban revitalization, and energy economics. He frequently engages with media and policymakers, offering expert commentary on UK/Welsh economic challenges, Brexit impacts, and local development strategies. Notable projects include studies on local land value taxation and nuclear energy investment benefits for North Wales.
Teaching spans undergraduate/postgraduate levels, with supervision of PhD/Master’s theses. He collaborates with Welsh Government and institutions like the Institute of Welsh Affairs on economic policy initiatives.
