Dr Chrysovalantis Vasilakis is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Bangor University's Department of Business, affiliated with Bangor Business School. He holds a PhD in Economics from Université Catholique de Louvain (2013) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (2015). His research spans applied econometrics, migration, health economics, sports economics, and machine learning applications in finance. He directs Forelab and chairs ethics committees, while maintaining research ties with IRES (UCLouvain), MDE-LAB (University of Aegean), and IZA.
Education: PhD in Economics (2013, UCLouvain); Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (2015, Bangor).
Research interests include forecasting methodologies, financial econometrics, corporate governance diversity, and the socioeconomic impacts of migration/refugee crises. Notable projects include analyzing boardroom diversity's impact on corporate misconduct and evaluating refugee exposure effects on crime in Greece. He has secured grants such as the 2023 BA/Leverhulme grant for sustainability finance and collaborated with Welsh Development Bank on AI-based credit rating models.
Awards include the 2023 EURO award for best EJOR paper in Theory and Methodology. He supervises PhD students in machine learning applications and finance, with former advisee Guan Wang graduating. His work bridges quantitative methods with real-world challenges in banking, healthcare, and policy.
