Edward Heath is a Professor of Exercise Physiology in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science at Utah State University (USU), where he has also served as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative since 2014. He holds degrees from the University of Utah (BS 1982, MS 1989, post-doctoral studies in Cardiovascular Genetics 1993), Ohio University (post-doctoral studies in Exercise Endocrinology 1992), and Oregon State University (PhD 1991).
Research Focus:
- School- and community-based health promotion programs emphasizing physical activity and dietary interventions
- Athletic amenorrhea and the female athlete triad
- Power and performance testing for athletes
- Body composition and metabolic assessment techniques
His scholarly output spans 51+ peer-reviewed journal articles, 21 abstracts, 15 technical reports, and several manuals and textbook chapters, with recent work appearing in European Journal of Applied Physiology, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, and International Journal of Exercise Science. Collectively, these publications reveal a sustained emphasis on applied exercise physiology, anaerobic performance diagnostics, obesity prevention in youth, and validation of field-based measurement tools.

Teaching & Mentorship:
Professor Heath teaches undergraduate courses such as KIN 4100 Exercise Physiology and KIN 4400 Measurement & Evaluation in Kinesiology, along with graduate offerings including KIN 6460 Exercise Electrocardiogram Interpretation and KIN 6490 Advanced Cardiovascular Exercise Physiology. Over the past two decades he has formally mentored more than 60 master’s and doctoral students whose research spans biomechanics, community health, and athletic performance.
