Dr. Heath Burton is an Associate Professor of Health Sciences at Furman University, where he teaches courses in human anatomy, physiology, wellness, and aging science. His research focuses on metabolic and cardiovascular factors influencing exercise performance, sedentary behavior’s impact on cardiometabolic health, and interventions to counteract inactivity. He returned to Furman in 2024 after completing his Ph.D. in Kinesiology at the University of Texas at Austin, where his work on inactivity’s effects on postprandial fat metabolism earned recognition as the 2022 Paper of the Year in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise.

Research interests emphasize the efficacy of power training to reduce injury risk, biomechanics of running/cycling, and the role of exercise in mitigating aging-related physical decline.
