Greg Cartee is the Beverly D. Ulrich Collegiate Professor of Kinesiology and a Professor of Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan. He serves as Associate Dean for Research in the School of Kinesiology and is affiliated with the Institute of Gerontology and Caswell Diabetes Institute. His research focuses on skeletal muscle glucose transport mechanisms, insulin signaling, and metabolic adaptations to exercise and aging.

- Postdoc - Washington University School of Medicine (1988)
Dr. Cartee's research explores how exercise, diet, and aging regulate glucose transport in skeletal muscle, with particular emphasis on insulin signaling proteins and GLUT4 transporters. His work spans in vivo rodent models, isolated tissue studies, and single myofiber analyses to understand metabolic disorders like diabetes.
His recent publications (2023-2025) focus on AS160 phosphorylation's role in glucose uptake, high-fat diet effects on GLUT4 transporters, and calorie restriction/AMPK activator interactions in aged skeletal muscle. These studies span molecular physiology, exercise adaptation, and diabetes research.
- Fellow, American College of Sports Medicine

- ACSM Citation Award
- Wenner-Gren Center Visiting Scientist
- Honor Inductee, University of Texas at Austin
- Featured in multiple prestigious lectureships
Dr. Cartee has served as NIH Principal Investigator since 1994, with grants from Diabetes Education and Research Foundation, American Federation for Aging Research, and American College of Sports Medicine Foundation. His work bridges kinesiology, physiology, and gerontology to address metabolic health challenges.
