Edward C. Green is a Research Professor in the Department of Anthropology at George Washington University. He holds a PhD from the Catholic University of America (1974) and has over 30 years of experience in international development and AIDS prevention. His career includes roles as Senior Research Scientist at Harvard School of Public Health and Director of the AIDS Prevention Project at Harvard's Center for Population and Development Studies. Dr. Green founded the New Paradigm Research Fund, focused on improving health in underserved populations globally.
His research emphasizes understanding indigenous health belief systems and designing culturally appropriate interventions. Notable contributions include work on AIDS prevention in Africa, STD dynamics, and collaboration between traditional healers and modern medicine. He has served on numerous advisory boards, including the Presidential Advisory Council for HIV/AIDS (2003-2007) and UNAIDS Steering Committee (2008-2009).
Key publications include AIDS, Behavior, and Culture (2011) and Broken Promises (2011), critiquing global AIDS policy. His work spans field research in Suriname, Mozambique, Swaziland, and elsewhere, documented in the National Anthropological Archives.
