Eduardo Gallo is an Assistant Professor and Associate Chair for Graduate Students in the Department of Biological Sciences at Fordham University. His research focuses on understanding the neurobiological mechanisms underlying motivated behavior and mental health disorders, with a particular emphasis on dopamine receptor function, synaptic plasticity, and cholinergic interneuron activity. He is actively involved in mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, as well as overseeing graduate program administration.
Dr. Gallo’s work integrates cutting-edge neuroscience techniques to study how neurotransmitter systems modulate decision-making, impulsivity, and anxiety. Recent studies investigate the role of dopamine D2 receptors in striatal circuits and their impact on behavioral outcomes. His lab also explores sex-specific neurobiological differences in mental health risk factors, leveraging epigenetic and molecular approaches.
Notable research trends include the interplay between dopamine signaling and cholinergic pause mechanisms, the role of Egr1 in anxiety-related gene expression, and the translational implications of these findings for disorders like ADHD and addiction. He has secured grant funding to advance these projects and is currently hiring postdoctoral researchers.
