Dr. Eddie Banks is an Associate Professor in Hydrogeophysics at Flinders University's College of Science & Engineering and the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training. He holds a PhD (2011) and BSc Honours (2003) from Flinders University, specializing in Hydrogeology. His research focuses on surface water-groundwater interactions, coastal hydrogeology, fractured rock aquifers, and novel field techniques like environmental tracers and hydrogeophysics. He is committed to applying scientific methods for sustainable water management, aiding natural resource managers and communities.
Key roles include Associate Editor of the Journal of Hydrology and reviewer for water sciences journals. He has been awarded the ARC Mid-Career Industry Fellowship (2024) and the South Australian Tally Poppy (2021). His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean water and climate action.
- Education:
- PhD in Hydrogeology, Flinders University (2007–2011)
- BSc Environmental Science (Honours), Flinders University (2002–2003)
- BSc Environmental Science (Hydrogeology), Flinders University (1999–2002)
His research interests span hydrogeochemistry, fractured rock systems, and coastal aquifers. Recent articles (2022–2024) emphasize braided river hydrology, tropical island groundwater dynamics, and geophysical modeling. Media expertise includes geophysics, hydrology, and water resources.
He has supervised 24 hydrogeology students and led projects on groundwater sustainability, including the ARC-funded Mid-Career Fellowship. His lab affiliations include the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training. Future work focuses on advancing interdisciplinary approaches to water resource challenges.
