Elena Serrano Bertos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Translation and Interpreting at the University of Alicante (Spain), specializing in teaching terminology and literary translation. She holds a PhD in Translation Studies (2018) and a degree in Translation and Interpretation from the University of Alicante (2006). Her research focuses on humanistic translation (particularly theatre and historical translation) and applied terminology, with emphasis on cultural mediation and intercultural adaptation.
Her academic contributions include leading research projects like the 2025 study on Austrian theatre reception in Spain, coordinated roles in EU-funded initiatives, and collaborative work with groups such as HISTRAD and TEATRADSUAL. She has published extensively on topics like censorship in translation during Francoist Spain, biblical translation strategies, and the cultural transfer of dramatic works.
Teaching spans over a decade, covering courses in German-Spanish translation, translation theory, and terminology across undergraduate and master’s programs. She has directed/co-directed 27 theses in recent years, emphasizing practical and theoretical aspects of translation education.
Research collaborations include stays at Charles University (Prague), University of Vienna, and the International College of Translators (Germany). Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary translation challenges, particularly in theatrical and literary contexts.
