Edoardo Teso is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Bocconi University and an Associate Professor (untenured) in the MEDS Department at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University (on leave 2024-2025). He is a Faculty Research Fellow at NBER, Research Fellow at CEPR, and Research Affiliate at IGIER and LEAP. Teso earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 2018.
Research Interests: Teso’s work bridges political economy, organizational economics, and development economics. His research examines how political incentives shape public sector efficiency, focusing on patronage, campaign finance, ideological policymaking, and institutional design. He combines large-scale administrative data with rigorous empirical methods to analyze bureaucratic behavior across diverse contexts, including Brazil, the U.S., and Uganda.
Publications: Teso’s research appears in top economics journals like the American Economic Review, Econometrica, and Review of Economics and Statistics. His work on patronage in Brazilian public sector hiring has been widely cited, while his studies on campaign finance, gender roles, and intergenerational mobility highlight methodological innovation and policy relevance. Forthcoming papers continue to explore organizational challenges in governance.
