Dylan Brewer is an Assistant Professor at the School of Economics, Georgia Institute of Technology, within the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. He joined the faculty in 2019 after earning a PhD in Economics with dual emphasis in Environmental Science and Policy from Michigan State University (2019), an MA in Economics (2016), and a BA in Economics and International Relations from the University of Virginia (2014). His research integrates applied econometrics and machine learning to address energy and environmental issues, including household energy use, thermostat economics, recycling, air quality, and policy design. Courses taught include environmental economics and Principles of Microeconomics, which has received teaching awards at Georgia Tech.
Research focuses on energy transition impacts, environmental health linkages, and behavioral responses to energy policies. Recent work explores labor market challenges in the clean energy transition, extreme weather effects on evictions, and causal inference methods for air pollution studies. Methodological contributions include addressing machine learning biases and analyzing thermostat data for energy conservation compliance. Teaching emphasizes practical applications of economic principles in environmental contexts.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on energy policy research and machine learning applications in environmental economics. Active in policy engagement through published analyses on topics ranging from mining impacts on maternal health to presidential influence on energy perceptions.
