Professor Douglas Hedley is a Professor of the Philosophy of Religion at the University of Cambridge’s Faculty of Divinity and a Fellow of Clare College. His research focuses on the intersection of philosophy, theology, and the history of ideas, particularly the Cambridge Platonists and Enlightenment thought. He leads the AHRC-funded project The Cambridge Platonists at the Origins of Enlightenment (1650-1730). Educated at Keble College, Oxford, and the University of Munich, he holds a doctorate in Philosophy under Werner Beierwaltes.
- He is co-chair of the Platonism and Neoplatonism section of the American Academy of Religion.
- Past roles include Secretary of the British Society for the Philosophy of Religion and President of the European Society for the Philosophy of Religion.
- He has served as a Templeton Fellow at the University of Notre Dame and held visiting roles at the Sorbonne and Durham University.
- Editorial contributions include the Studies in Philosophical Theology series and lectureships in India through the Teape Lectures.
His teaching and supervision span advanced graduate studies in religious philosophy, with current PhD students researching topics in theology and religious studies.
