Douglas Gabriel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Contemporary Art History at the University of Florida's School of Art + Art History. He holds a PhD in Art History from Northwestern University (2019) and has held postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard University, The George Washington University, and the Getty/ACLS Postdoctoral Fellowship. Previously, he was a lecturer in the College of Liberal Studies at Seoul National University.

His research focuses on North and South Korean art and visual culture, challenging Cold War-era binaries in contemporary art studies. Current projects include a book manuscript on North Korean socialist realism and South Korean democratization movements, as well as studies on North Korean youth culture and religious heritage representation. Teaching interests span East Asian avant-gardes, performance art, and science fiction in contemporary art.

He is a co-editor of ARTMargins and currently finalizes a manuscript titled The Cold Contemporary, examining Cold War legacies in Korean art. His work bridges art history with cultural studies, emphasizing transnational and interdisciplinary approaches.
