Ria Chae is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Korean Studies at Indiana University and an affiliated researcher with the Council on East Asian Studies at Yale University. She has held academic positions globally including:
- Lecturer in International Studies at Seoul National University (2022–2025)
- Lecturer in History at Yale University (2020–2021)
- Moon Family Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Pennsylvania (2019–2020)
- Postdoctoral Fellow at Institute for Korean Studies, Indiana University (2017–2019)
- Visiting Assistant Professor at National University of Singapore (2016)
- Predoctoral Fellow at Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (2011–2012)
Her research examines modern East Asian intellectual history and Cold War international relations, particularly focusing on Korean thought transformations during colonial/post-liberation periods and North-South Korea geopolitical dynamics. She is currently developing a book project titled The Making of a Cold War in Korea analyzing inter-Korean rivalry within global Cold War contexts.
