Douglas Fearon is a Professor at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), where he leads the Fearon Laboratory and is a member of the CSHL Cancer Center. He holds academic appointments in Cancer Genetics and Genomics, focusing on understanding tumor-immune interactions, particularly in pancreatic cancer. His research explores how the tumor microenvironment suppresses immune responses, with breakthroughs including the role of CXCL12-KRT19 coatings in T cell exclusion. Fearon earned his MD from Johns Hopkins University and a BA in English Literature from Williams College.
Key roles include Director of the Flow Cytometry Shared Resource, and adjunct positions at Weill Cornell Medical College and the University of Cambridge. His professional accolades include membership in the National Academy of Sciences and honorary degrees.
Research Interests: Tumor immune suppression mechanisms, cancer immunotherapy, pancreatic cancer biology, and stromal cell biology. Current projects involve developing anti-CXCR4 antibodies and studying B cell antigens in solid cancers.
Notable Publications: Over 291 publications, including seminal works on CXCR4 inhibition, autophagy in immune evasion, and T cell exclusion mechanisms. Recent studies focus on keratin-19 secretion mechanisms and NKT cell roles in antitumor immunity.
Awards: Distinguished Fellow of AAAS, Honorary Doctorate (University of Leicester), and multiple editorial roles in top journals like Nature and PNAS.
